Atraginskij Garden is the largest green area in Nalchik and the city’s main space for walking. Formed back in the 19th century, it remains the center of the city’s resort life.
In terms of feeling, it’s not really a park but a forest inside the city: its alleys transition into dense shade and then into open areas by the water. Because of this, a walk never feels repetitive and can easily stretch for several hours.
The Nalchik River flows through the garden, and the main focal point remains the Resort Lake. Here you can rent a boat or a pedal boat—and within just a few minutes find yourself in silence, where the city can no longer be heard.
The Lovers’ Tower is a small historical landmark from the 19th century, conveniently fitting into the walking route and serving as a visual waypoint between a stroll and the ascent upward.
The finale is the cable car to Malaya Kizilovka. The ride is short but impressive: the park stays below, and from the viewing platform near “Sosruko” you get a panoramic view of all Nalchik and the surrounding mountains.
In addition, the park contains all the basic resort infrastructure: cafés, recreation areas, rentals, walking routes, and seasonal activities. Because of this, Atazhukinsky Garden does not require detailed planning—people come here without a fixed itinerary and stay as long as they feel comfortable, gradually shifting from a casual walk to full relaxation.
