Divnogorye (Museum-Reserve)
The hallmark of Divnogorye is its impressive chalk landscapes: whimsical rock outcrops on steep slopes and comb-like canyon-shaped ravines. The floodplain meadows amaze with their vastness and serenity, featuring steppe areas and sites unique to Europe and Russia where relict flora and fauna have survived since ancient times.
Divnogorye is home to more than 800 plant species. Eight of them, such as the beautiful feather grass, Kozopolyan's prolamin, and leafless iris, are included in the Red Book of Russia. Additionally, more than 150 vertebrate species and nearly 7,000 invertebrate species inhabit this area, with over 50 also listed in the Red Book.
Among the numerous historical and natural monuments in Divnogorye, artificial cave complexes hold a special place. To date, 48 archaeological sites from the Late Paleolithic era to the Middle Ages have been discovered here.
